Abstract
Alberto Gonzales, counsel to the president of the United States, addressed graduates of Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law during its commencement ceremony. Gonzales was appointed as White House counsel in January 2001 and is the first Hispanic-American to be named to the position. Prior to joining the White House, Gonzales sat on the Supreme Court of Texas and served as the 100th secretary of state of Texas. Gonzales also served as general counsel to Governor Bush for three years and before joining the Governor’s staff, was partner with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins in Houston.
